Lankan fraudster appears in Fiji Court
A 26-year-old Sri Lankan charged with giving false information to a
public servant and in being possession of fake documents appeared in
Nadi court yesterday.
It is alleged that Ramanand Kalapati Pillay used a fake Canadian
passport of Vijikaran Savamesan to travel to New Zealand.
Pillay told the court that he had bought the passport from an agent
in Malaysia. He was on a connecting flight from Sri Lanka to New Zealand
and was caught by officials.
A check was made with the embassy and it was found that the passport
and the documents were correct however the photo pasted on the passport
was not his.
He has been remanded in custody and will be deported to Sri Lanka
tomorrow. He has been sentenced to six months imprisonment and suspended
