Pakistan assures continuous security cooperation

COLOMBO: Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi
yesterday assured continuous support to strengthen security cooperation
between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Addressing the Media yesterday at the Hilton Hotel, Pakistan FM
Qureshi said a comprehensive and cordial meeting was held with his Sri
Lankan counterpart Minister Rohitha Bogollagama yesterday.
They discussed various issues concerning the bilateral relationship
of Pakistan and Sri Lanka including security and economic issues.
Minister Qaureshi asserted that Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a common
security threat and are facing a similar ground situation.
“Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a close relationship. Both countries are
experiencing terrorism and extremism. We train Sri Lankan Forces and
provide military support to overcome the security threat.
We have defence cooperation with Sri Lanka and Pakistan has forwarded
a draft agreement to continue military support to Sri Lanka,” he added.
He pointed out that an action plan will be put forward to overcome
the food price hike and security threats.
“Pakistan will have a new level of understanding with Sri Lanka and
as we had been standing shoulder to shoulder on many occasions, Pakistan
will be continuing its assistance to Sri Lanka,” Minister Qaureshi said.
Qaureshi will meet his Sri Lankan counterpart Minister Bogollagama
and will sign bilateral agreements between two countries.
He also noted that the Pakistan will set up a mechanism to fight
against terrorism. Pakistan is facing terrorism and it is combating
terrorism.
“Pakistan is a country with cooperates with its allies on fighting
against terrorism and extremism. Pakistan is also a victim of terrorism
and we know how terrorism acts and destroys peace.” |
