11,000 postal voting applications rejected

Election Authorities have rejected more than 11,000 postal voting
applications due to various anomalies while accepting 51,079 others as
eligible to cast their vote during postal voting at the forthcoming PC
Elections for Sabaragamuwa and North central provinces.
Authorities took steps to release the postal voting papers to the
relevant certifying officers yesterday.
According to election authorities there are 17,739 eligible postal
voters from Sabaragamuwa and 33,340 from North central.
In the Kegalle district authorities have rejected 1,188 requests
while accepting 10,977.
In Ratnapura, authorities have approved 6,762 postal voting requests.
In Anuradhapura district 25,772 applicants have been given permission
for postal voting and 5,584 other requests has been turned down.
In Polonnaruwa, Authorities have accepted 7,568 applications and
rejected 3492.
The Postal Voting at the PC elections is to take place on August 7
and and 8 with the main election scheduled to be held on August 23. |
