Youth shot after disobeying halt order

A youth was shot dead by police for disobeying Police orders at the police road block in Padukka on Monday night.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said L.N.Thushara (23) resident of Kurundeniya, Padukka was shot by police when he sped up his trishaw without stopping at the 6th mile post, Meepe-Ingiriya road police checkpoint around 11.20 pm.

"Police at the road block ordered the trishaw driver to stop at the checkpoint and disobeying police orders he sped up his trishaw. Police shot him to prevent him from fleeing and Thushara succumbed to his injuries," SSP Gunasekera said.

Padukka police are conducting investigations.

Miharaj-UN Nabi special programme

Al Masjidul Badriyeen Nawala Jumma Mosque, Rajagiriya will conduct Miharaj-UN Nabi special programme on July 30 at the Mosque.

Subahana Moulood Majlis will be held after Majhrib prayers recited by Kari Ubaidullah Mahdhoom and Moulavi Al Haj M.T. Hilurdeen will deliver a special lecture on the significance of Mihraj Night after Isha Prayers.

Look out for the New Moon

A conference of the learned ulemas. Theologians, Katheebs and Trustees of Jumma Mosques, representatives of the All Ceylon Jemmiyathul Ulema, Sharia Council, Thakkiyas, Zaviyas, Anjuman Faiz-E-Raza (Memon Community) and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs will be held under the auspices of the Colombo Grand Mosque at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall on August 2, immediately after the Salath Ul Magrib to decided on the beginning of the Islamic month of Sha'ban Hijri 1429 on the evidence of sighting the New Moon in any part of Sri Lanka.

The Colombo Grand Mosque appeals to the Muslim Public to look out for the New Moon on August 2 immediately after Magrib (6.31 p.m.), if the New Moon is sighted, kindly inform the Colombo Grand Mosque with reliable witnesses on telephone Nos. 2432110, 2390783, 2434651 or 0777366099. This was stated on a press release issued by the General Secretary of the Colombo Grand Mosque Mr. Nazushan Hassen.
