A giant statue of St. Anne was taken in procession from the hallowed shrine in Talawila yesterday to its ultimate destination the church in Weligampitiya dedicated to the Saint. The statue built in Weligampitiya was housed in the church before it was taken to the Talawila shrine at the request of the Catholics in the area. Here the statue being received at Chilaw on its journey back to Weligampitiya, Ja-ela. The statue is said to be the largest in size of any statue of St. Anne in the country.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment said yesterday it had combined forces with the Immigration\ Emigration Department and Police to counter the spate of malpractices pertaining to the recruitment of Lankan overseas job seekers.

Rubber rich diversified conglomerate Richard Peiris and Co. PLC has sold the remaining 51 per cent of its media arm - Rivira Media Corporation (Pvt) Ltd for Rs. 150 million, making a capital gains of Rs. 28 million.
