KOTTE: JVP Parliamentarian K.D. Lal Kantha yesterday described the
trade union action organised by the JVP in collaboration with several
political parties as successful with most State employees extending
their co-operation.
The MP speaking in Parliament said according to their statistics,
nearly 70 per cent teachers had participated in the strike while 72 per
cent of employees attached to hospitals had also joined the strike.
He said 80 per cent employees in the National Hospital, Colombo South
Hospital, Kurunegala and Badulla hospitals took part into this trade
union action.
In addition, hundred per cent employees of the Ragama hospital also
participated.
Lal Kantha said 90 per cent employees of CEB Headquarters, 95 per
cent employees of Government Press, 100 per cent employees of Central
Mail Exchange and 80 per cent graduates in the State sector had extended
their fullest support to the strike.
He said nearly 40 per cent of SLBC employees and 65 per cent of Sri
Lanka Rupavahini Corporation employees had also participated in this
trade union action. According to our reports 10 per cent of buses have
not been operated today. In addition, out of 320 train drivers, 96 train
drivers had participated in the strike.
A large number of plantation workers had also extended their support
to the trade union action, he said. |
