Army cricket final today
Inter-regiment cricket finals of the SL Army will be played at
picturesque venue at Panagoda today. Chief of Staff Maj Gen. N.
Wijesinghe will be the chief guest. Two strong teams of Artillery
Regiment and Ordnance Corps would battle it out for supremacy. Both the
teams had convincing wins over their opponents in semi-finals.
Artillery Regiment team is studded with some quality players who
represented the Army in Premier League and Under 23 Division I in
domestic tournaments.
They would have the service of new International Star of “mystery
bowler” Ajantha Mendis who produced sensational performances for Sri
Lanka in the just concluded Asia Cup in Karachchi.
When contacted Army Chairman - Cricket Major General VR De Silva
stated he decide to postpone the match for today to make way for Ajantha
Mendis to play.
Ordnance Corps team who won the Sri Lanka Army Championship in 2007
is full of talented and experienced players. They are determined to
repeat their last year’s performance.
They are likely to lose the services of dashing batsman and right arm
leggie Sekuge Prasanna as he is scheduled to play a three day practice
game organized by SL Cricket.
This would be the first occasion where Army Cricket finals be played
at newly converted cricket grounds at Panagoda, Brigadier (Retd) H.I.K.
Fernando who represented Ceylon would be present as the Guest of Honor.
