Army cricket final today

Inter-regiment cricket finals of the SL Army will be played at picturesque venue at Panagoda today. Chief of Staff Maj Gen. N. Wijesinghe will be the chief guest. Two strong teams of Artillery Regiment and Ordnance Corps would battle it out for supremacy. Both the teams had convincing wins over their opponents in semi-finals.

Artillery Regiment team is studded with some quality players who represented the Army in Premier League and Under 23 Division I in domestic tournaments.

They would have the service of new International Star of “mystery bowler” Ajantha Mendis who produced sensational performances for Sri Lanka in the just concluded Asia Cup in Karachchi.

When contacted Army Chairman - Cricket Major General VR De Silva stated he decide to postpone the match for today to make way for Ajantha Mendis to play.

Ordnance Corps team who won the Sri Lanka Army Championship in 2007 is full of talented and experienced players. They are determined to repeat their last year’s performance.

They are likely to lose the services of dashing batsman and right arm leggie Sekuge Prasanna as he is scheduled to play a three day practice game organized by SL Cricket.

This would be the first occasion where Army Cricket finals be played at newly converted cricket grounds at Panagoda, Brigadier (Retd) H.I.K. Fernando who represented Ceylon would be present as the Guest of Honor.
