Hakeem to re-enter House

SLMC Leader and former Parliamentarian Rauff Hakeem yesterday resigned from the post of opposition leader of the Eastern Provincial Council to give a wide representation to the Muttur people in the Eastern provincial council, SLMC spokesman and MP Hassan Ali said yesterday.

The SLMC leader is to be sworn as an MP from the National List today, he said.

Many people in Muttur had voted for the SLMC at the Eastern Provincial Council election. But the candidate who represented Muttur was unable to enter the council, he said.

“Hakeem’s resignation is aimed at giving more representation to the Muttur people.”

Rasik Fareed who contested the Eastern PC election through the SLMC ticket will enter the council to represent Muttur, he said.
