Time to review doctors’ involvement in administration -President
It is time to re-review the involvement of doctors in the
administrative service. A comparative methodology has to be followed
when doctors are appointed to the administrative posts in the health
sector, the President pointed out during a discussion with a deputation
of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) yesterday.
It is for the medical officers to make available their professional
expertise to the country and it is also their duty to serve the people
through their knowledge, he said. The President instructed the officials
to commence immediately a housing project for the medical officers in
the interest of a quality health service.
The deputation thanked the President for his gesture to propose a
housing scheme to medical officers which no other leader in history ever
pledged.
In addition, they said the medical officers had secured a number of
victories in their respective fields and appreciated the President’s
contribution to all such victories. The deputation presented their
proposals for the new Act to regulate the private medical institutions.
The President instructed the officials to study the amendments
proposed by the deputation and thereafter give effect to the Act without
delay.
The President further instructed the officials to give effect to the
Act within a specific time frame so that undue delays could be avoided.
Problems faced by the doctors in their respective fields were widely
discussed. |
