Fire destroys 700 acres of forest

An extent of about 700 acres belonging to the Victoria, Rantambe and Randenigala sanctuary were gutted in fire last Monday (07).

The fire which started at Kempitiya, Ududumbara on Monday could not be contained till following Thursday. Police suspect the poachers would have caused the fire. The Police and the Wildlife Dept. have jointly launched investigations.
