Odel to promote ‘Backstage’ globally

Odel, a leading department store in Sri Lanka will promote its brand
‘Backstage’ globally next year.

Speaking to Daily News Business, the Chief Operating Officer of Odel,
Arjuna Samaratunge said they are planning to expand the business
globally promoting the brand `Backstage’ in other countries.
“We have noticed that there is huge demand for accessory shopping
among ladies,” he said.
“We feel there is a market opportunity in accessory segment and the
company believes that it could compete with other accessory retailers in
the international market. However still we have not finalised which
country to enter first with the ‘Backstage’ brand,” he said.
Meanwhile, Odel has invested Rs 20 m for expanding the retail outlet
in Kohuwela. With its floor area doubling from 5,000 square feet to
11,000, the expanded Odel outlet will now offer shoppers eight new
departments.
Samaratunga said the main objective of this expansion project is to
cater to the customers needs in and out of Colombo. We have doubled the
sales staff in the outlet with the expansion programme.
“There are six Odel outlets in the country and during this year we
are not focusing to open any retail outlets,” he said.
“A well-designed single-floor retail space comprising of the most
popular departments, for the benefit of shoppers in the suburbs and in
Colombo South is now open,” CEO of Odel, Otara Gunewardene said. |
