Commander flies to Wanni hours after “Michael Base” falls

Giving a further boost to the morale of the troops in the Wanni, Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka flew to Wanni Security Forces Headquarters on Saturday morning, hours after the LTTE’s “ Michael Base” in Welioya fell to the Army, marking one more victorious phase in the fight against terrorism.

Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka with several senior officers were received by Major General Jagath Jayasooriya, Commander SF Headquarters Wanni.

The Commander addressing senior officers serving in the areas congratulated the troops on their success.

He also evaluated operations in the Wanni sector. Senior officers briefed the Commander on ground realities and explained the reasons to the slow-moving but steady advance of the troops north of Welioya.

The Commander spoke to them personally and shared views related to security developments.
