Lankan Int’l school in Jeddah elects three member board of
management
A three-member board of management was unanimously elected by the
parents of the Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah, Friday.
Announcing the names of the new members M.L.M. Imran, Susantha
Subasinghe and M.T.M.Muzammil, Musthafa Hersi, senior official from the
Foreign Education Department from Ministry of Education, pointed out
that in the absence of a contest, only the remaining three qualified
nominees were declared elected as new members to the board.
“The new members will take over the management of the school only
after the summer vacation,” Hersi said, hoping for a swift transfer from
the previous to the present board.
The Election Commission was headed by School Principal F. H. Wahab
and the other members included Mosfer Ghambi Assistant Director for
Foreign Education-Makkah Region, Musthafa Hersi from the Ministry of
Education, Mohamed Zakaraiah, representative from the Embassy in Riyadh,
Azmiya Feroze and Harsha Walpita from the administrative and academic
staff staff respectively and Subbiah Maheson and Imthiyaz Haniffa as
representatives from parents .
Detailing the process of nominations received by the Election
Commission, School Principal Fareeda H. Wahab, who officiated as the
Election Commissioner said that she received only five nominations and
it rejected two applications since they did not comply with the
requirements of the Ministry of Education.
Wahab said that the election process was initiated by Sri Lankan
Ambassador A.A.M.Marleen, who was keen on setting up a new board of
management since the tenure of office of the previous board expired in
June 2007.
The outgoing members included Azmy Anverdeen, M.H.M.Jiffry, Asoka
Jayantha and Zahran Aboosahid.
On a proposal made by the newly elected board, the present Advisors
to the School Management Shahul Hameed and Subbiah Maheson would
continue office along with the present outgoing Chairman Azmy Anverdeen.
