Lankan Int’l school in Jeddah elects three member board of management

A three-member board of management was unanimously elected by the parents of the Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah, Friday.

Announcing the names of the new members M.L.M. Imran, Susantha Subasinghe and M.T.M.Muzammil, Musthafa Hersi, senior official from the Foreign Education Department from Ministry of Education, pointed out that in the absence of a contest, only the remaining three qualified nominees were declared elected as new members to the board.

“The new members will take over the management of the school only after the summer vacation,” Hersi said, hoping for a swift transfer from the previous to the present board.

The Election Commission was headed by School Principal F. H. Wahab and the other members included Mosfer Ghambi Assistant Director for Foreign Education-Makkah Region, Musthafa Hersi from the Ministry of Education, Mohamed Zakaraiah, representative from the Embassy in Riyadh, Azmiya Feroze and Harsha Walpita from the administrative and academic staff staff respectively and Subbiah Maheson and Imthiyaz Haniffa as representatives from parents .

Detailing the process of nominations received by the Election Commission, School Principal Fareeda H. Wahab, who officiated as the Election Commissioner said that she received only five nominations and it rejected two applications since they did not comply with the requirements of the Ministry of Education.

Wahab said that the election process was initiated by Sri Lankan Ambassador A.A.M.Marleen, who was keen on setting up a new board of management since the tenure of office of the previous board expired in June 2007.

The outgoing members included Azmy Anverdeen, M.H.M.Jiffry, Asoka Jayantha and Zahran Aboosahid.

On a proposal made by the newly elected board, the present Advisors to the School Management Shahul Hameed and Subbiah Maheson would continue office along with the present outgoing Chairman Azmy Anverdeen.
