Teledrama actor plays different role, allegedly attacks Assistant
Director
Sachitra Mahendra
An assistant Television Director was seriously assaulted allegedly by
a 20 member gang at his Gangodawila residence on July 1 following an
incident with a popular teledrama actor.
Assistant Director Priyantha Malhamiarachchi was shooting a scene but
requested that a TV in an adjoining room, which was disturbing his work,
be switched off. As there was nobody in the room Malhamiarachchi him
self went and switched the TV off.
This is when the tele drama actor came in to the scene and tried to
create a stir and asked why the television set was switched off without
his consent.
The matter was supposed to have been settled later in an amicable
manner but things took a different turn, Roshan Janaka and Sunil
Prasanna, two close relatives of the victim told the Daily News.
They said that Malhamiarachchi is reported to be in serious condition
at the Colombo National Hospital. “The gang tried to push him down the
stairs, inspite of settling the matter”, they said.
“He still can’t eat or drink. He finds it difficult to move even a
little bit” the relatives said.
Cinema and Television Technicians, Association (CINTTEC) General
Secretary Wimal Deshapriya told the Daily News that the incident should
not be taken as an isolated issue.
“Our concern is about this incident rather than the popular actor who
did it.He was even willing to settle the hospital bill. But we want a
guarantee that no repetition of this nature would take place in future,”
Deshapriya said.
