Navy official drowns while attempting to save two children:

Triple tragedy at Wattala sea

WATTALA: Two schoolchildren and a Navy official drowned in the Wattala sea on Saturday, Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara told the Daily News yesterday.

The Navy official drowned when he attempted to rescue the two schoolchildren from drowning.

The postmortems were conducted yesterday.

SSP Gunasekara said a large crowd had visited the beach in Wattala including schoolchildren on Saturday. The Navy official who saw the two children drown, attempted to save them."

"However his attempts failed and he too drowned with the two children," SSP Gunasekara added.
