NASSL inducts four scientists
Four eminent scientists who through their work have attained a high
level of excellence in their chosen scientific fields were inducted as
Fellows of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka at the SLAAS
auditorium.
Prof. B.M. Ratnayake Bandara, B.Sc., Ph.D. has been Professor of
Organic Chemistry at the Peradeniya University since 1994.
He is Chairman of the Board of Chemical Sciences of the Post Graduate
of Science of the University has a special interest in the scientific
investigation of herbal medicine and the development of Ayurveda.
Prof. Rohan Rajapakse, Ph.D., M.Sc., has been a faculty member in the
Department of Agricultural Biology, University of Ruhuna, since 1978 and
a pioneer staff member of the University of Ruhuna.
He is a member of the University Grants Commission and a Board Member
of the National Science Foundation. He is also a Member of the Advisory
Board of the Ministry of Agricultural and Agrarian Reforms.
Prof. Kemal Ismail Deen, MBBS, MD, MS, FRCS, presently occupies the
Chair of Surgery at the University of Kelaniya and is currently
President, Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Society, Sri Lanka.
He is a member, National Science and Technology Commission, Sri Lanka
and has received many awards for outstanding research. Prof. Deen has
contributed to healthcare in Sri Lanka by integrating basic science with
clinical surgery.
Prof. Vasanthi Thevanesam, MBBS, MRCP, DM, MRCPath, is presently the
Head and Professor of Microbiology of the Faculty of Medicine,
Peradeniya University.
Professor Thevanesam has served as a member and examiner of the Board
of Study in Microbiology. |
