Malaysian housing project in Sri Lanka

Ties between Sri Lanka and Malaysia would strengthen as Malaysia has
agreed to extend assistance for a housing project to construct houses in
Colombo, said Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development
Dinesh Gunawardena.
Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate construction
process of 2,500 housing units in the city of Colombo and its suburbs
had taken place at the Ministry.
The Reel Private Company Ltd, Sri Lanka signed two agreements one
with Jetson Institute of Malaysia and the other with Ceecon Company of
India.
Under the Mahinda Chintana programme the ministry expects to
construct 65,000 houses throughout the island of which 20,000 housing
units would be completed within a year, said the Minister.
Jetson Company of Malaysia has planned to build 2,500 housing units
in the city of Colombo out of which 1,000 are for the communities in
undeserved settlements and middle income communities.
This programme under ‘Palin Housing Mandira’ scheme would be mooted
by the Reel Company. |
