Change of guard in TN Congress Committee?
Amid speculations that the change of guard for Tamil Nadu Congress
Committee (TNCC) could take place anytime, TNCC president M Krishnassamy
on Saturday called on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
Krishnassamy who came to Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence at 5.30
pm, along with some of his followers, had to wait for half-an-hour for
his turn as the DMK chief was in discussion with officials and
industrialists at that time. Significantly, no second-rung leader of the
TNCC accompanied Krishnassamy.
Emerging out of the meeting, Krishnassamy dismissed the rumours about
the possibility of his shift from the present post.
"On this issue, the final decision will be taken only by AICC
president Sonia Gandhi....we have to take into account only what she
says....and she has not uttered any word about this so far,"
Krishnassamy observed.
Asked about his recent Delhi visit at a time when talks about
appointment of a new TNCC chief were doing the rounds, Krishnassamy said
his trip to Delhi was a routine one.
When mediapersons further grilled him about the remarks of Union
Minister EVKS Elangovan that the new TNCC chief would be appointed
within a couple of days, Krishnassamy said: "You have to ask him about
this."
Questioned about the purpose of his meeting with the DMK Chief,
Krishnassamy said he had discussed the strategies to be adopted for
strengthening the UPA to face the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Responding to a query, he said the Congress-led alliance was strong
and would win all the seats in Tamil Nadu in the LS polls.
Incidentally, Krishnassamy had called on Karunanidhi on the day when
Sonia Gandhi had a detailed discussion with the top-brass of the
Congress party at New Delhi to draw strategies to face the Assembly
elections in five States as well as the LS polls.
