Ammunition found in HRC vehicle

Police yesterday recovered twenty rounds of T-56 ammunition and a hand grenade from a vehicle belonging to the Jaffna branch of the Human Rights Commission (HRC).

Confirming the incident, Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera told Daily News that the cache was found inside the vehicle while it was undergoing repairs inside a garage.

During a search operation the ammunition and the grenade were found from a vehicle bearing No: 261-1102 and subsequent investigations had bared that the vehicle belonged to the Human Rights Commission, Gunasekera said.

He further added that the driver of the vehicle along with the garage owner and two mechanics employed at the garage were taken into custody for questioning.
