Havelocks in smashing 41-12 win over Police

Havelocks Sports Club began their second round campaign for the Caltex inter club A division league title with a smashing 41 points to 12 points victory over Sri Lanka Police Sports Club in their return encounter worked off at Havelock Park yesterday.

The Havies fresh after their stunning 19-11 triumph over CH and FC last week, produced another magnificent performance to score six tries and converted four of them and also fired across a penalty.

Police SC who went in for this game with three successive victories under their belt in the first round managed to score only a goal and a try. Havelocks SC took a commanding 15-7 lead at half time.

The game turned out to be a forwards battle from the start with the Havies enjoying a large amount of possession through the experienced Rajiv Perera, Hassen, Jayasena, Ganapathy and Izzadeen. Police SC too rallied around through their mobile set of forwards comprising of Welagedera, Hewawasam, Pradeep Wilson, Nilusha Fernando and Indrachapa.

But it was fly half Wasim Thajudeen who gave Havelocks SC the lead with two early tries followed by a neat penalty from Samantha Lakshan who also converted one try in the first half. Havelocks SC then completely dominated the second half while adding four more tries to their tally while conceding just a solitary try to their opponents.

Dilan Soysa struck twice shortly after the interval while Hasan and Shakeer Badurdeen scored a try during the latter stages of the game. Samantha Lakshan did well to add the extra points to three of their tries in the second half and Havelocks SC ran out easy winners 41-12.
