The Anuradhapura District Crime Branch on Saturday arrested six A/L
students who have been involved in the robbery of 16 shops in
Anuradhapura.
According to Police spokesman, SSP Ranjith Gunasekera, a special
police team has made this arrest on a tip off and the students are now
being questioned.
Police recovered more than 30 mobile phones, SIM cards, three wheeler
parts on information provided by these students during interrogations.
The Anuradhapura Police yesterday said many more robbed items are yet
to be recovered.
These youth have been directly involved in the robbery of 16 shops in
the town and police were seeking the mastermind behind the spate of
robberies, police said. The students have reportedly confessed that they
covered their day-to-day expenses by pilfering mobile phones and spare
parts.
Investigations carried out does not reveal whether they are involved
in any underworld activities or have any connection to underworld gangs,
police said. The students are to be produced before court today.
