Jobs for disabled

COLOMBO: Social Services and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Lionel Premasiri will implement a special programme to seek the contribution of disabled persons to the country’s development activities, Ministry spokesman Supun Ratnayake said.

Ratnayake said that under the first phase of this programme, jobs would be provided to around 1,000 disabled persons in various private companies. A large number of private companies have already agreed to provide jobs for the disabled.

Arrangements have already been made to provide employment for disabled war heroes at the Ranaviru Sevana. Under this programme several war heroes will be employed by Three Star Farm, Piliyandala, he said.

Deputy Minister Premasiri is conducting a series of discussions with private sector institutions to seek more employment opportunities for disabled persons, he added.
