NCPC and Sabaragamuwa nominations from June 27

COLOMBO: The nominations process for the North Central and
Sabaragamuwa Provincial council elections is set to begin on June 27 and
close on July 4, according to a decision taken by the Commissioner of
Elections.
However the date of the election has not been finalised and is
expected to be announced shortly.
The elections should take place within three months from the date of
the PCs being dissolved and accordingly the poll is slated to be held
before September 9.
The two Councils were dissolved with effect from Monday, June 9
midnight through a special Gazette notification issued by the two
Governors of the Councils.
The North Central Provincial Council consists of 33 members
(including two bonus seats) with 21 members being elected from the
Anuradhapura district and 10 from Polonnaruwa respectively.
In the Sabaragamuwa Province, Ratnapura district is slated to appoint
24 members while Kegalle has 18 slots with two bonus seats on offer for
the winners in the 44 member council. |
