Two arrested with golden Buddha statues

Two suspects with golden Buddha statues that disappeared from
Kohukumbura Purana Raja Maha Viharaya, Bibila last February were
arrested by Medagama Police on Friday.
According to Medagama Police, a statue weighing over 14 kilogrammes
hidden in a garbage dump was recovered by the police while another
statue of eight kilogrammes was unearthed from a land in Nugambura,
Medagama.
The heads of the statues were detached by the time they were found,
the police said.
A Police team led by Medagama Police OIC Sujeewa Zoysa are conducting
investigations under the direct supervision of the Moneragala SSP. |
