Fruitful discussions on GSP +

Very constructive bilateral discussions in connection with the GSP +
is going on between the European Union (EU) delegation and the Sri
Lankan Government.
The series of discussions can be described as very constructive and
useful, Export Development and International Trade Minister Prof. G.L.
Peiris said.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing at the Government
Information Department Auditorium, yesterday. Prof. Peiris said during
the discussions the EU delegation highlighted certain concerns and the
Government explained in detail what steps have been taken in connection
with those concerns as the Government.
They were in regard to the Eastern Province, human rights, judicial
actions and steps taken to protect suspects and victims, etc. The
Government also explained to the delegation about the progress made so
far.
During discussions, the Government elaborated how steps have been
taken to protect and strengthen the democratic rights of the people by
enabling them to elect their own representatives to the Eastern
Provincial Council after 20 years and how it upgrade the lives of people
living in the East. |
