New designs programme from National Design Centre
The National Design Centre will inaugurate an islandwide programme to
introduce new designs and creations to the handicraftsmen from the
Parakaduwa Handicraft Training Centre in the Ratnapura district on June
National Design Centre Chairman Sunil Fernando said this programme
jointly organised by the National Design Centre and provincial
industries and rural development ministries will educate handicraftmen
on how new technology is being used to make new designs.
"New creations and products of handicraftmen will also be registered
with the National Design Centre under this programme," Fernando said.
The Centre has placed special focus on the handloom textile industry.
New designs are expected to introduce to pottery, coir and brass
industries, he said.
