Tanker crash leads to oil bonanza

People in and around the Welihena area in Ambepussa were busy in collecting oil leaked from a oil tanker that toppled after a head on collision with a passenger bus at Ambepussa yesterday.

The driver has lost control of the vehicle due to heavy speed and plunged into a bus plying from the opposite side.

According to the Warakapola Police, the traffic on the Colombo Kandy road came to a virtual standstill for a few hours after this incident. The leaked oil has flown to the nearby canal and the residents in the area have started collecting leaked oil to tins and barrels.

However Police managed to remove the ill fated vehicle in which over 20,000 litres of were stored by yesterday evening.
