SAARC Village coming up in Nawalapitiya
A Model village with 100 houses is being constructed at Mahawilawatta
estate, Ulapane, Nawalapitiya to mark the 15th SAARC Summit to be held
in Sri Lanka this year.
The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will construct the
SAARC village under the guidance of Housing and Common Amenities
Minister Ferial Ashraff on Power and Energy Minister Mahindananda
Aluthgamage's request.
As the initial stage, 100 houses will be constructed for middle
income families in Nawalapitiya within this SAARC village by depicting
the themes and identities of the SAARC movement. Construction of the
village commenced last April.
It has been planned to complete the entire development work of this
village before July.
The NHDA is spending Rs. 20 million for the housing development and
Rs. 40 million will be spent for the infrastructure of this project.
The Government has allocated a 15 perch land plot to each
householder. The NHDA has given Rs. 200,000 to a beneficiary family to
construct a house and each family will spend another Rs. 200,000 to
complete the house.
All these houses will be constructed on a plan prepared by the NHDA
with the consultation of the beneficiary family and their requirements.
Half of the construction has already been completed. |
