Bus fares to be amended

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Transport has decided to amend the bus fares with effect from mid night today. Accordingly the fares of private omni-buses will be increased by 27.2 per cent and CTB bus fare by 17 per cent.

The above decision was taken by the Ministry following a discussion held at the Ministry of Transport yesterday.

The amendment of bus fares were mainly imposed due in keeping the rising oil prices in the world market, Ministry sources revealed.

Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said the CTB has decided to increase its fares only by 17 per cent after considering the existing high cost of living.

Representatives from the National Transport Commission and Private Omni-Bus Association were present at yesterday's discussion.
