Former President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL),
President's Counsel Nihal Jayamanne has great human qualities and
discharged his duties without any discrimination, said Chief Justice
Sarath N. Silva after unveiling Mr. Jayamanne's portrait at the BASL
Auditorium on Saturday morning.
"Nihal Jayamanne rendered yeomen service to the BASL for the last two
years and was responsible for organising the Sri Lanka Law Week for the
first time in Sri Lanka," the Chief Justice said.
"He entered the profession when his father late J. M. Jayamanne was
the Minister of Justice, but never took any advantage of his father's
position. He did his best for his clients with much satisfaction," the
Chief Justice added.
"Lawyers have a wider roll to assist the BASL in order to maintain
the high standards of the profession and the future members who take to
this profession," he said. The Chief Justice emphasised that any person
who bears arms is his enemy. We have a responsibility to ensure peace in
the country.
Presidents Counsel Daya Perera, Present BASL President W. Dayaratne,

Rohan de Silva were present along with Nihal Jayamanne.
