Pakistan Federal Minister at CIMA World Conference

Federal Minister, Chairman, Higher Education Commission; Adviser to
Prime Minister for Science and Technology, Pakistan, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman
will be the key note speaker at the CIMA World Conference Colombo 2008
scheduled to take place form May 28 to 31 at the BMICH Colombo.
The conference which is based on four important pillars peace,
innovation , global branding and leadership, believed to be of great
value in today's context, will feature eminent speakers specializing
under the different themes Dr. Rahman will also address delegates also
as the lead speaker under the them innovation.
Dr Atta-ur-Rahman was the Federal Minister for Science and Technology
(2000-2002). He is now the Coordinator General of COMSTECH, an OIC
Ministerial Committee, and is Federal Minister/Chairman of the Higher
Education Commission and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Science and
Technology.
Dr Atta-ur-Rahman is also the President of the Pakistan Academy of
Sciences and the Network of Academies of Sciences of Islamic Countries (NASIC).
As the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, he has launched
over 350 national projects which includes; a digital library which
provides free nation-wide access to all colleges universities and other
academic and research institutions, providing free nation wide access to
scientists and engineers to sophisticated instruments installed in any
institute in Pakistan, establishing over a dozen new Universities,
placing a satellite in space which is now used for distance learning,
and initiating two new digital TV channels exclusively for higher
education.
Dr. Rahman also launched a US 300 million annual support program for
up gradation of Universities whilst making substantial funds available
for research grants. The national PhD output increased from 150 per year
to 300 per year and now being further increased to 1500 per year under
his supervision.
Additionally, Dr. Rahman contributed immensely to promote Science and
Technology in the region, where he initiated a large number of projects.
