Chrys Gunaratne TT Tourney on June 7 and 8

The Chrys Guneratne Memorial Open All Island Ranking Table Tennis Championship conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Schools Table Tennis Association (SLSTTA) will be worked off on June 7 and 8 at the S. Thomas' College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia.

This tournament is a major event in the local Table Tennis calendar and it is named in memory of Chrys Guneratne a famous paddler and an administrator who did a lot to promote table tennis in the country.

Indika Prasad (Seylan Bank SC) and Ishara Madurangi (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda) had a memorable outing in last year's tournament by completing a double each where a record number of players took part. The former clinched the men's singles and the mixed doubles titles while Madurangi collected her double by winning the women's singles and the women's doubles titles.

The events to be worked out are men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles and masters singles (over 35). In addition there will be ten events for school boys and girls namely under 10, 12, 15, 18 and 21. The entries will be closed on May 25, 2008 and the draw will be held on May 29 at the Otters Aquatic Club, Colombo 7. The entries should be sent to G.G. Weerakkody, Chairman Tournament Committee of TTASL, 151, Maligakanda Road, Colombo 10.

Ashok Melvani Tourney

Meanwhile, the Ashok Melvani Motoomull Memorial Open All Island Ranking Table Tennis Championship will be held on July 5 and 6 at the S. Thomas' College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia. The tournament is being conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka with the SLSTTA.
