GTB launches TMT 500 steel bars

The ISO 9000-2001 certified GTB Colombo Corporation Ltd is to lead the construction industry with new generation Reinforcement Steel Bars by introducing thermo mechanically treated bars equipped with superior mechanical properties and economies in use over conventional Reinforcement Bars.

The product was launched at Taj Samudra Hotel Colombo last week. Managing Director GTB Prasanna Abeyratna said that the company has been able to set internal bench marks which are higher than the standards, with this launch. Arrangements have been made to make available GTB TMT 500 bars throughout the country from its plant in Pannala and customers can expect an uninterrupted supply now.

He said that the quality of construction in the country will be further enhanced by using these TMT bars. Thermo mechanically treated bars are recognised throughout the world as superior construction material as compared to conventional cold twisted deformed steel bars on account of distinct advantages of higher bond strength, excellent bendability , superior weldability and higher corrosion resistance according to Abeyratne.

Advanced technology from Thermax Germany , is used for the first time in Sri Lanka to produce GTB TMT500.
