People's Bank joins in commemorating war heroes

People's Bank has come forward to issue flags in conjunction with the declaration of the war heroes' commemoration month from 7 May to 7 June 2008. The objective is to remember those war heroes who gave their lives to protect Sri Lanka.

The main ceremony was held recently at People's Bank Head Office under the patronage of Minister of State Revenue and Finance and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. Also present were, Acting Chairman, Ranaviru Seva Adhikariya Major General Palitha Fernando; Chairman,People's Bank W. Karunajeewa, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager, People's Bank M. Wickramasinghe, members of the corporate management of the Bank and representatives from the Armed Forces and the Police.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of State Revenue and Finance and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that it is our responsibility to defeat terrorism, to commemorate the service of war heroes who have sacrificed their lives and are doing so at present to safeguard the democratic rights of the people, and to look after their welfare as these were all matters of national interest.

He expressed his appreciation towards the People's Bank for coming forward to join this endeavour. Chairman of People's Bank W. Karunajeewa, said that all Sri Lankans must unite towards working for the welfare of the war heroes who have dedicated themselves to protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation.

He hoped that everyone will support this noble cause, irrespective of race, religion and caste.
