Eight member gang arrested, luxury vehicles, looted goods recovered

An eight member robber gang was arrested by the Kohuwala police along with three luxury vehicles and looted goods worth around Rs. 15 million.

The three vehicles included a Prado jeep, a TownAce Van and Toyota Corolla car belonging to a millionaire businessman in Nugegoda. Among the other loot were a large number of valuable electrical goods.

Police said investigations revealed that the gang leader had earlier served the businessman as a driver. He had gained employment after producing a forged identity card pretending to be a disabled soldier. He had later found employment for a friend as a servant at the businessman's household.

He had gone on leave before the businessman went on holiday to Maggona with his family. While the businessman and family were away he had comeback to the businessman's house and robbed the vehicles and household items with the connivance of his servant friend, interrogations revealed. Kohuwala Police Crimes branch is conducting further investigations directed by Mt Lavinia SSP Hemantha Adhikari.
