Agreement signed for Colombo-Katunayake expressway

An agreement to commence the construction of the proposed Colombo-Katunayake
expressway was signed yesterday between the Road Development Authority
(RDA) and the China Metallurgical Construction Group.
RDA Chairman M.B.S. Fernando told the Daily News construction will
commence within 60 days. He said the Chinese Company which is a well
known group in the world will be engaged in funding, planing, designing
and constructing the Colombo-Katunayake expressway. The US$ 310 million,
25.6 km Colombo-Katunayake expressway will be operational by 2012.
He said according to the Mahinda Chinthana the Ministry of Highways
and Road Development will build and rehabilitate infrastructure both to
support the acceleration of economic growth and generate employment
opportunities.
