Vesak on grand scale in Kelaniya

On the instruction of Labour Minister Mervyn Silva the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha in association with the Kiribathgoda Eksath Welanda Sangamaya has made elaborate arrangements to celebrate Vesak this year on a grand scale with Amisa and Prathipatti pooja.

Vesak programmes will start on May 19 and continue for a week in the Kelaniya electorate, said Minister Mervyn Silva in a press release yesterday.

The Vesak Pandals and Dansalas planned in the electorate will be sponsored by the Kiribathgoda Eksath Welanda Sangamaya and other well wishers. A highlight will be a Seevali Memorial Vesak lantern competition conducted by the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha.

The release said the Minister has ordered the closure of all taverns and liquor shops in Kelaniya for two additional days after the Government's officially announced dates since Kelaniya is a sacred area.
