Unfit rice for flood victims destroyed

RATNAPURA: A consignment of rice to be distributed among flood victims was unfit for human consumption, reports said.

Ratnapura Municipal Council health officers following a raid destroyed 195 kilos of red-kekulu rice and another 72 kilos intended for consumers. Health Officers also examined a stock of rice at the Elapatha Co-op Union with the assistance of the Government Analyst.

Ratnapura additional district secretary, S.M. Nandasena, agreed that there was a strong possibility of rice unfit for consumption reaching the consumer and said steps would be taken to prevent it.
