Peterites face tough task against Kingswood
Chris Dhambarage
Defending champions St. Peter's College will face a tough task when
they take on the unbeaten Kingswood College team in their Singer inter
school under 20 Division One Group A league rugby tournament match at
Bambalapitiya today.
The Peterites will be looking to bounce back into recognition after
having suffered a shock 19-22 defeat at the hands of S. Thomas' College
at Mount Lavinia last week.
In contrast the Kingswoodians are quite confident having outplayed
their home town rivals St. Anthony's College 19-12 at the Nittawela
Stadium in Kandy. This time however they will be up against a more
superior outfit and will need to put up an improved performance to
register their third successive victory in the current season.
St. Peter's College of course will be hoping to exploit their home
advantage having trounced Dharmaraja College, Kandy by a massive margin
at the same venue in their opening fixture.
The Peterites have made a couple of changes for this game with Anisha
Fernando coming in as fly half and the experienced Harsha Weerakkody has
moved into the centres position. St. Peter's College will also have a
psychological advantage having won last year's encounter by 14 points to
7 points at the Bogambara Stadium.
Even then Kingswood College will be determined to keep their momentum
following a tremendous performance last week. The odds no doubt will be
against them but still they will be hoping that they could make an
impact and stay alive in the league tournament.
Isipatana v St. Anthony's
Isipatana College will be hoping to pull off their second straight
victory when they confront St. Anthony's College in their Singer inter
school under 20 Division One Group A league rugby tournament match at
Havelock Park today.
Isipatana College had the satisfaction of overcoming their
traditional rivals Royal College 17-12 in their previous outing and also
retained the Major Milroy Fernando Memorial Trophy.
This will be another severe test for Isipatana who seem to have
recovered following their crushing defeat at the hands of Trinity
College Kandy in the opening match of the season.
The Antonians of course will be hoping to redeem their lost prestige
after a 12-19 defeat at the hands of their home town rivals Kingswood
College last week. |
