Quarter-finalists found in ABA Intermediate C'ships

The quarterfinal line up in the light fly weight, fly weight and
bantam weight categories were completed on the second day of the Amateur
Boxing Association intermediate men's and women's championships
continued at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium ring in Colombo yesterday.
In the light fly weight under 48 kgs weight class event W.A.K.
Lasantha of Sri Lanka Air Force BC overcame R.M.T.J.K. Rathnayake of MAS
Silueta in a close encounter 41 points to 38 points.
In the same weight class L.S. Lakmal of Slimline BC scored a
convincing 33-14 victory on points over V.T. Jayasinghe from Silverline
BC. In addition A.S. Kalpage from Peradeniya BC had the better of C.
Weerasinghe also on points 28-16.
They were joined by M.G. Tennekoon from Sri Lanka Navy BC who
overcame R.L. Sandaruwan of Polonnaruwa BC with the referee deciding to
stop the contest in round one having outscored his opponent 9-3.
In the fly wight under 51 kgs class event P.D. Suresh of MAS Silueta
BC moved into the quarterfinals with his opponent U.K. Guruge of
Vidyartha retiring during round three. G.S. Kumara from Sri Lanka Army
BC also made it to the quarterfinals in the similar manner against his
teammate S.K. Zoysa.
In contrast R.H. Wickremaratne of Sri Palee BC was stretched to the
maximum as he overcame P.L.A. Sandaruwa from Sri Lanka Army BC on points
32-19 while S.P. Gamage from Sri Lanka Navy BC had the better of J.P.
Kumara of Sri Lanka Army BC 14-4.
The semifinals of all weight categories will be worked off today and
finals are scheduled for Sunday at the same venue. |
