Troops capture Adampan town

MANNAR: Security Forces further consolidated its gains in the Mannar
sector by capturing the strategic Adampan town area yesterday morning
while moving ahead 1 square km in Alankulam.
The LTTE retreated from its positions in Adampan town in the face of
heavy firepower from the Security Forces who have launched a stiff
offensive to liberate the Wanni front.
“At least 15 LTTE cadres were killed and many others injured when
troops marched forward and confronted the Tiger cadres resulting in the
capture of the Adampan junction and it’s liberate from the LTTE’s grip
at around 8.30 a.m.”, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara
said.
A fierce fight erupted lasting over four hours when the LTTE resisted
troops battling in the Wanni theatre and marching towards the Adampan
town.
“The Security Forces launched an offensive attack at around 4.30 a.m.
and the confrontation lasted till the Adampan town fell into the troops’
hands at around 8.30 a.m.”, Brigadier Nanayakkara told the Daily News.
Two soldiers were killed and seven others injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, he said the Security Forces gained 1 square km. in
Alankulam in the ongoing liberation operations to secure Wanni from the
LTTE domination, in Mannar yesterday afternoon.
The Security Forces marched onwards into the LTTE controlled area and
following a pronged offensive attacks drove out the LTTE from Alankulam,
at around 1.30 p.m. “33 LTTE cadres were killed and 40 injured in the
confrontation”, Brigadier Nanayakkara said.
One soldier was killed and five others injured in the clashes. Five
soldiers were also reported missing in action.The Security Forces are
consolidating their positions captured from the LTTE in the Mannar
sector.
The Security Forces liberated an area extending to two square kms.
Which lies between the Neelachcheana road and the Adampan tank located
South of Adampan town following fierce fighting on Thursday evening. |
