DG Mahesh Pasqual’s brilliant year of Lionism
Service Projects top Rs. 100 m:

DG Lion Mahesh Pasqual and Lion Dr. Manel at the 90th
International Convention held in Chicago in June 2007, where
Lion Mahesh took oaths as District Governor 306 B2, at a
colourful ceremony attended by over 20,000 Lions from around the
world.

District Governor, 306 B2, Lion Mahesh Pasqual hails from Matugama
and is a proud product of Ananda College, Colombo. He received his B.Sc
Engineering Degree from the University of Peradeniya and later confirmed
as Chartered Engineer from the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
Lion Pasqual holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from
the University of Lincoln, UK.
He is the Chairman of Isuru Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, a leading
construction company which pioneered export of construction industry.
In addition he is also Managing Director of many other companies.
Invited to join the Lions Club of Colombo Sommerset in 1996, Lion
Mahesh joined the Club as a charter member and after holding many posts
in the Board of Directors, he became its President for 2000/2001. His
leadership and vision made the club receive 18 achievement awards that
year and he was adjudged the best President - 1st runner-up.
The next year saw Lion Mahesh in the District Cabinet as Zone
Chairman, Region Chairman, Deputy Cabinet Secretary, and finally
District Cabinet Secretary, before being elected as the Vice District
Governor 2006/2007. Lion Mahesh was awarded the Prestigious
International President’s Leadership medal for his outstanding
leadership qualities.
Lion Mahesh is a Melvin Jones Fellow and has been the recipient of
Appreciation Certificates from five International Presidents. He is
married to Lady Lion Dr. Manel who graduated from the university of
Ruhuna and who obtained her masters in surgery in the Colombo campus.
Lion Dr. Manel is currently the consultant Eye Surgeon at the Eye
Hospital, Colombo.
Signature projects
One of the major service projects which DG Lion Pasqual embarked on
his Kadawatha Lions Golden Jubilee Care and Health Centre which is under
construction at Kadawatha. This Rs. 40 million project excluding cost of
land, caters to eye disorders including cataract operations.
This project consists of a dental facility and a state-of-the-art
computer centre for the rural youth. Lions Quest Launch - Lions
International has a program termed Lions Quest. This is a school based
skills development program for adolescent children of the age group 11
to 14 years.
Lions Sight First
One of the ‘Eye-catching’ service projects carried out by Lions
District 306 B2 is the “Sight First” programme in which District 306 B2,
under the leadership of DG Lion Mahesh Pasqual has carried out no less
than 3200 Catarat Surgeries free for the needy.
Lion Dr. Manel has taken an active part in this programme and
extended her fullest support to this humanitarian project Dr. Lion Manel
has received many appreciative awards from all districts in Multiple
306.
In addition the Lions Sight First Hospital has recognised her for her
exemplary services, and the multiple district awarded her the Multiple
Gold Star award during 2005-2006 for carrying out Cataract operations
free, for the needy.
Their daughter, Imasha who is still persuing her school career, is an
active participant at most Lions Service Project.
Lion Mahesh will hold the 3rd annual District Convention of District
302 B2 today and tomorrow at the BMICH. Over 1000 Lions, Lion Ladies
Leos and distinguished guests will participate. Around 300 Lions who
have excelled in service to the needy, will be recognised during the
two-day convention.

Swarna Sinhabhimani 306A2 Dist. Convention
First Lady Lion Delrusha Seneviratne being congratulated for
being selected as one of the “Top Three” Lady Lions of the
world, out of 753 Lions districts.

The 3rd Annual District 306A2 Convention, “Swarna Sinhabhimani” was
held at BMICH last week, with Lions International President, Lion
Mahendra Amarasuriya and International First Lady Lion Kushlani as chief
guests.
A distinguished gathering of VIPs, guests, Lions, Lion ladies and
invitees graced occasion.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of over 500 leading
personalities in the field of social service, by International
President, Lion Mahendra Amarasuriya and District Governor, 306A2, Lion
Kamal Seneviratne.

Deputy Cabinet Secretary District 306B1 Lion Priyantha Fernando who
was the Chief Guest of the second anniversary celebrations of the
Deepaloka Welfare Association Balagala Hendala addresses the gathering.
The anniversary celebrations were held at the Ashokarama Temple
Balagala with the participation of the Chief Incumbent Ven. Batagalle
Panyakitthi Thera and the Parish Priest of Roman Catholic Church
Nayakakanda Hendala Rev. Fr. Gregory Jayantha.
The Deputy Cabinet Secretary was warmly welcomed by members of the
Deepaloka Welfare Association and was conducted to the venue in
procession.
The chief incumbent of Ashokaramaya Balagala Ven. Batagalle
Panyakitti Thera, Parish Priest of Nayakakanda Rev. Fr. Gregory Jayantha,
President of the Deepaloka Welfare Association Nimal Perera, Secretary
Linus Pinto, Treasurer Indu Liyanage also spoke. OIC Pamunugama Police
Jeewahastha Sirisena participated as a special guest. |
