SOSL Masterworks Concert on Saturday

The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka will present the Masterworks Concert on Saturday 3rd May. The concert is sponsored by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, in line with their goal of promoting exchange and collaboration between Sri Lanka and Norway in the cultural sector.

The concert features works by Boccherini, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Verdi and Grieg. The principal orchestral work will be Mendelssohn's beautifully evocative and high spirited Symphony No.4, the 'Italian'.

The soloists are Tamara Holsinger, cello, and Camilla Jonstang, soprano, who is visiting from Norway, who combine Sri Lankan and Norwegian talents. Tamara a member of SOSL, is soloist in Boccherini's elegant and expressive Cello Concerto in B flat major.

Camilla Jonstang, soprano, performs Mozart's brilliant 'Exsultate, jubilate' with its famous 'Alleluia', Grieg's hauntingly beautiful 'Solveig's Song' from his Peer Gynt suites, and Verdi's aria 'D'amour sull'ali rosee' from his popular opera Il Trovatore.

The Concert will be conducted by Ajit Abeysekera and will be held at Ladies' College Hall at 7 pm. Tickets are free of charge due to the Norwegian sponsorhip.
