Kaplan medical programmes introduced

International Scholar Professional Services (Pvt) Ltd (ISPS) is an organisation that strives to upgrade competencies of the workforce in Sri Lanka and facilitate them in finding a suitable career path.

ISPS is a Sri Lankan Government's Ministry of Health accredited training provider to select and train government nurses to work in the United States Health Service.

MBBS qualified medical professionals in Sri Lanka need to complete the USMLE examination to be able to practise in the USA. Similarly Nursing professionals have to complete the NCLEX examination as part of the qualifying process to work in the USA. In an effort to provide better training facilities for such professionals qualify and find suitable work opportunities in the USA.

ISPS have tied up with the Kaplan Medicals, USA, a subsidiary of Washington Post, DC to introduce USMLE and NCLEX programmes in Sri Lanka.

The needs assessments carried out by ISPS from time to time reveals that, there is a shortage of over 100,000 health professionals in United States and this is likely to grow to over 500,000 by the year 2020.

With the introduction of these schemes, medical and nursing professionals in Sri Lanka would be better trained to take advantage of the vast number of employment opportunities available in the health sectors of the developed countries. In return there will be a resulting increase in foreign exchange earnings of Sri Lanka.

Earnings of a nurse in the US is equivalent to about Rs. 300,000 per month. Such a project will provide a partial solution to the unemployment problem prevailing in Sri Lanka as well.

ISPS with the support of the US Embassy in Sri Lanka has made arrangements to officially launch the Kaplan Medical programmes in Sri Lanka on April 29 at 5.30 p.m. at Hilton Colombo.
