UPFA election campaign in top gear

The UPFA election campaign in Trincomalee is in top gear with house to house propaganda and pocket meetings being the order of the day said the campaign organiser for the district Minister John Senevirathne yesterday.

The Trincomalee district consists of three polling divisions namely Trincomalee, Serunuwara and Muttur and also it includes two Muncipal Councils, 11 Pradeshiya Sabha's and 244 Grama Niladhari divisions.

According to Minister Senevirathne top Government Ministers have been appointed to spearhead the campaign in Trinco with Minister Felix Perera leading the Trinco MC and Western Province Governor appointed to handle affairs in the Kinniya MC.

Trincomalee houses a total of 242,390 eligible voters and Authorities have set up 266 polling centres to cater to them.

According to Minister Senevirathne the UPFA has planned a house to house campaign for one week from today which would be followed by several pocket meetings where the main focus would be to make the public aware of plans for development and peace.

Several other top Government Ministers have been appointed to spearhead the UPFA political campaign in Trincomalee by assigning them to man the 11 PS divisions.

Meanwhile, in the midst of this hectic campaigning day to day activities are continuing unabated and according to Police, incidents of election related violence is low.

But according to sources, all arrangements have been made to ensure a free and fair poll with an elaborate security arrangement to cover the whole district.
