1,186 nurses recruited

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry recruited 1,186 nurses for Grade 1 post basic training recently. The Ministry has made arrangements to train more nurses for better ward administration and supervision, Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry sources said.

Sources said the Ministry selected 664 nurses from the central Government health institutions while another 522 nurses selected from Provincial Council health institutions for the two year training.

The post basic training will be held at four institutions, i.e: are Post Basic Nursing College, Colombo and the Nursing Training Schools in Kandy, Galle and Anuradhapura. After the two year training these nurses will be recruited as nursing sisters and male nurses.

Earlier, post basic training was conducted only at the Colombo Post Basic Nursing College and this type of training extended to other institutions after 14 years in order to train a large number of nurses.
