Polhena WSC an asset to society
Polhena Water Sports Club lifesavers have been involved in offering a
great service in saving many lives of people who visit Polhena for sea
bathing. So far they have saved over 500 lives in twenty years.
Lifesavers of this club have saved 11 lives at Polhena and four at
Madihe beach area Last year.
The members who were engaged in this most valuable service are P.P.
Dimuthu Palinda, H.H. Sameera Madushanka, N.H. Chamili de Silva, A.A.
Prasanna Ferdinandis, B.P. Kanishka Madhumadhava, D.V. Jayantha Das de
Silva and lifesaving instructors M.L.A. Sameera Jeewantha, U.H.
Chaturanga Priyadarshan and M.K.A. Pathmakumara.
These life savers are led by senior life saving inspector/ Matara
District swimming instructor/prefect of games at Mahanama Vidyalaya
Matara K.W. Yasarathne. He has been honoured by the British Government
with a Knighthood and the International Royal Lifesaving Mountbatton
Medal for the most outstanding lifesaving done during the year 2006.
