Alli’s big step towards the domestic farmer

Alli Company (Pvt) Ltd. has taken a big step towards the local farmer who has been continuously harassed by the traders who purchased their crops for a song.

To overcome the above difficulties experienced by the farmers, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka intervened as a mediator, introducing the Forward Sales Agreement where the farmer is in a position to sell their crops direct to the buyer without getting obstruct by an “in between” trader.

The banker of Alli Company who appreciated the Be Lankan Buy Lankan policy of the company has approved, the import of this special Milling Plant since they too have been in the process of assisting the Agri farmer keeping in mind the poor farmer who produces Oried Dhal in so many difficult areas.

The new State-of-the-art Oried Milling Plant housed at the factory will give ample opportunities to the Oried Farmer since the company purchases their crop directly from them, thus the farmer is guaranteed a reasonable price for their crop. The plant has also given employment opportunities for the people in an around this area.

The inaugural ceremony for the commissioning of this Milling Plant took place recently with the patronage of the following distinguished personnel:-

Director - Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Karunarathne, Senior Deputy General Manager People’s Bank, P. Pathirana, Assistant General Manager of People’s Bank W. Ariyasena, Manager - People’s Bank, Nittambuwa Branch W. Kamalasiri, Manager - Seylan Bank, Kegalle Branch, Krishantha, Manager - Hatton National Bank, Nittambuwa Branch Nilan Fernando, Additional Secretary - Ministry of Industrial Development, R. Piyathilake, Chairman “Mawbima” Foundation, Ariyaseela Wickramanayake and The Chairman - Managing Director and the Board of Directors and the Executive Managers of Alli also graced this occasion.

In the plant, the Black Gram gets dried, de-stoned, de-husked and finally value addition by polishing thus becoming a premium quality product where no one could argue about its quality.

People’s Bank too has facilitated these farmers to obtain loans at low interest rates for cultivation. This has proved to be an immense success since a large number of farmers have signed contracts with the company.

Furthermore, the farmer too is relieved from spending on transport charges since we go directly to their collection centres to purchase our requirement. Hence, this indeed is a fool proof arrangement.

As a policy, Alli has always give priority to the products made from local raw materials.

So, this is one area where they are going to add another feather to their cap-another Agri based product, very specially given on the plate to the farmer.
