Pannala Motor Racing from March 30

Pannala Super Cross Circuit will comeback to serve its fans once
again when after a lapse of one and a half years with the Ceygra
Motocross Championship 2008 scheduled for March 30.
This was disclosed by the president of the Sri Lanka Racing Riders
Association Upali Dassanayake at the press briefing held at the Ceylinco
Tower last Tuesday to announce the preparations for the meet.
This event is totally sponsored by Ceylinco Grameen automobiles (pvt)
Ltd. For the first time. The Championship will have three stages which
will decide the years champion after the third stage scheduled for
December21. The second stage is set for July 6.
The winners will be awarded points ranging from 25, 23 and 21
respectively to find the ultimate winner for the Racing and Street Trail
Bikes 125 championship. The events to be worked off are Street Trail
Bikes up to 122 (Novices), Upto125, up to 125 2 stroke, up to 250 and
the Open event. Racing up to 80 (under13) upto80 ( under 16), up to 125,
up to 125 (2 stroke), upto250 and the Open event.
There will also be a kids event for the age group under 9 and the
special event for Ceygra Jet 200cc. the organizers also have decided to
include an Open Mountain Bike event Elite riders who are registered with
the Mountain Biking Association said the president of the racing riders
Association Dassanayke.
He added that the riders who win the two championship will go away
with Ceygra Motor Cycles at the end of the third stage. In addition
there are trophies and cash awards for the winners of the three events.
Dassanayake further added that already all the leading Super Cross
riders have consented to participate at this meet Their participation
will sure to add more colour to the event as the Motor Racing fans of
the area are eagerly waiting for this opportunity to come doorstep. The
Pannala was a one time famous track for Super Cross meets which also is
the birth place of this kind of racing.
Amal Suriyage the president of the Mountain Biking Association said
that his organization will hold the event for Elite Riders which will
consist of 10 laps. This he said that they this was planned mainly to
popularize the sport in the area.
Those interested in participating are kindly requested to submit
their entries to Upali Dassanayake 263, Hugh Level Road, Kirullapona or
to Buultjens Brothers, Puttalam Road, Kurunegala on or before March 22.
Entries for the Open Mountain Biking event will be received till 10a.m.
on the day of the event according to Association President Suriyage. |
