Khema Samaraweera dies

Matara district MP and Sri Lanka Freedom Party Mahajana Wing leader and former Minister Mangala Samaraweera's mother Khema Samaraweera passed away yesterday after a prolonged illness.

Khema Samaraweera was the wife of former Minister Mahanama Samaraweera. She was also a member of the Matara Urban Council in 1950 as well as from 1990 to 1997.

During Mangala Samaraweera's tenure as a minister, she was his private secretary. Khema Samaraweera also served at the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd.

The funeral will be held at 3.00 p.m. on March 24 in Matara.
